Scouting Oakland’s Urban Pathways: Clipboards, Camera, ACTION!
During the Fall of 2009, Oakland Urban Paths teamed up with folks from Walk Oakland Bike Oakland to walk the 250 plus pathways throughout the city and record information on their physical condition.
Anyone who has walked Oakland’s Urban Paths knows that their condition varies greatly. Some are in excellent condition, others are in need of some sweeping and tending, others in need of a lot more help and some have been totally blocked off. Some remain undeveloped.
We appreciate your help!
Oakland Urban Paths always needs volunteers who like to walk, take photos and use a tape measure! The inventory process is a great way to meet fellow Oaklanders and explore the cityscape.
The data collected during the inventory process will be reviewed by City of Oakland staff and assist in developing a “Stairway Improvement Prioritization Plan,” which will guide strategic investment in these resources over the next 10 years.

Hello -
I am newly moving from San Francisco to Oakland (near Bella Vista) and am eager to find a new urban walk that includes hills and stairs, as I will dearly miss my route in San Francisco. My research led me to this organization and am so happy to know of what you all are endeavoring. I am wondering if there are any maps available or if you’d be able to point me in the right direction so that I might discover the hills and stairs of Oakland on my own. My new cross section is 13th and E 28th Streets in Oakland (94606).
My thanks!

Hi Diana,
Great to have you on the sunny side, you’ll surely find plenty of stairs to keep you busy in Oakland. Please join us for one of the Jane’s Walks this coming weekend!
